🌿 Why Nature-Based Occupational Therapy Works 🌿
Nature-based occupational therapy supports motor, sensory, emotional, and social development by harnessing the power of outdoor environments. Natural settings provide rich sensory input, promote regulation, reduce stress, and boost motivation—helping children engage more fully in therapeutic activities.
Activities like climbing, digging, building, and exploring offer real-life, meaningful challenges that enhance fine/gross motor skills, attention, executive functioning, and social skills. Nature is calming and engaging, making it especially effective for children with ADHD, autism, sensory processing challenges, and anxiety.
Meet the Therapists
Julee from Sierra Skies Therapy and Dawn from Wander Outdoors Occupational Therapy are coming together to present Nature Kids Reno, a therapeutic nature-based camp provided in a small group setting.
Participating in group or camps is truly different from individual sessions. In a group model, the needs of the overall group are prioritized over the needs of any one individual. To ensure the safety of your child as well as other children who participate in the group, it is important your child is able to follow basic safety rules.
Children must be able to do the following to participate in camps/groups:
1.) Stay within 10-20 feet of the group.
2.) Follow verbal or visual directions (most of the time... We know kids are kids!😊).
3.) Participate at their own level without demonstrating behaviors that significantly or repeatedly disrupt the experience of other children in the group.
4.) Have basic safety awareness to be in an open, nature setting with an adult nearby but NOT always within arm’s reach.
